Winnipeg West KOA Journey Campground Review

Winnipeg West KOA Journey Campground Review

We stayed at the Winnipeg West KOA Journey in May of 2025 as part of a trek across Canada (more on that here). Conveniently located just off Trans-Canada Highway 1, we arrived after hours expecting our site slip to be left in a mailbox for us only to discover that the owners had stayed open awaiting our arrival. They wanted to ensure that we arrived safe and sound. Registration was in a small, well-stocked camp and convenience store attached to a gas station.

Campsite at Winnipeg West KOA Journey, Manitoba, May 2025

Campsite: With well under 100 campsites, the campground was modest in size, however the sites themselves were spacious and well maintained. Our campsite was a back-in adjacent to the highway, which we did not find to be a problem for our one-night stay.

Campground: Located between the Assinibone River and the Trans-Canada Highway near Winnipeg, Manitoba, this KOA had been open only a few seasons before we stayed here. Being early in the camping season, the pool was not open yet, but appeared to be new and included a small splash pad with playground nearby.

The bathroom and shower facilities were spacious and clean. Located within a newly built building, the unisex bathroom and shower area consisted of individual stalls, some with a toilet, one with a urinal, and others with individual showers. Ample counter space with numerous sinks were available in a shared area.

Value: At $45 per night, it was perfect for us while travelling across Canada and would be equally worthwhile as a springboard location for visiting attractions in nearby Winnipeg.

Caution! In our campervan we were not bothered by the sound of the highway, however, in a tent this may not be the case. Additionally, not all will be comfortable using shared unisex shower and bathroom facilities, so consider this when booking.

Tip! The camp store was very well stocked, and super convenient to have gas right on site. Also, the coffee found in the camp store is delicious!

Final word: As a KOA Journey, this campground is exactly what you need for an overnight stay.
