The COVID-19 pandemic affected us all. It was a stressful time, full of worry: about our health, our relationships, our jobs, our families, and our finances. For many of us, everyday manageable pressures were multiplied, while our supports were to be maintained six feet apart. What started out as two-weeks of social distancing to “flatten the curve”, went on to become more than two-years of pandemic protocols, and now that we’re rounding the corner (again) we’re burnt-out.
What is Burnout? Burnout is what happens when a person experiences chronic stress without a break. Your body and mind lose capacity to hold all the stress which results in exhaustion that is not solved by rest or a break.
How do we recover from burnout? Believe it or not, just because the worst of the pandemic is behind us, our bodies, hearts and mind still remember the stress and we need to recover. Experts recommend striving for balance: enough sleep, even movement, eating well, getting enough water, and connecting with friends.
Feeling overwhelmed, over-worked and burnt-out, I, as a Nurse/Wife/Mother who has been an avid camper my entire life, turned to restoration in the outdoors to find this balance and begin to recover. What was once week-long camping trips once a summer became spring and fall seasonal camping with many long weekend and week-long trips throughout July and August. Looking to increase the feel of luxury, self-care, and a little bit of pampering while camping, I wanted to subscribe to a monthly box of luxury camping goodies as a treat for myself.
Online research identified a gap in this service industry – although a few monthly boxes were available, if they contained the goods I was looking for the boxes did not ship to Canada, or if they shipped to Canada they didn’t have the goods I was looking for. In the end, I found that there were no options for monthly subscription boxes of luxury camping products that supported small, independent, Canadian businesses, so I took it upon herself to make it happen, in hopes of bringing balance to Glampers across the country.
Glamping Essentials is a Canadian subscription box company founded in 2022 that promotes positive social connections, outdoor experiences, and balanced lifestyles through engagement with camping, cottaging and the Great White North.
